A USB drive
without the USB.

Your files in Finder, Windows Explorer and your phone — without carrying a physical drive. Choose 5 GB, 100 GB, 256 GB or 5 TB.

How it works

Three steps, then it stays out of your way.

1

Choose a size

From 5 GB to 5 TB. You pay for a fixed amount of space, and you always know exactly how much you have.

2

Install and sign in

Driive appears on your Mac or PC as a drive. One click connects it — no drivers to install, no restart.

3

Use it like any drive

Drag files in, open them from any application, save straight back. Your phone and browser see the same files.

A drive, not a sync folder

This is the difference that matters, and it is worth being precise about.

A sync folder

  • Keeps a second copy of everything on your disk
  • A 2 TB account needs 2 TB of free space to hold it all
  • Files arrive when the sync client gets around to it
  • Conflicted copies when two devices disagree

Driive

  • Files live on the server; your disk stays yours
  • A 5 TB drive works fine on a laptop with 50 GB free
  • Files you have opened before are cached locally and open from disk
  • One copy, one place, no conflicted duplicates

Opening a file you have not used before downloads it first, so it depends on your connection. We are not going to pretend otherwise — Driive is not a local SSD.

How it is built

The short version, because you are trusting us with your files.

Storage in Europe

Files sit in a private, EU-jurisdiction object store. It has no public address, and nothing can be read from it without a credential that only our servers hold.

A gateway that owns your quota

Every read and write passes a gateway that enforces the size you bought. That is why the number in the app is the real number, and why an upload that would exceed it fails cleanly rather than half-succeeding.

Local cache on your machine

Files you have opened are kept on your own disk, up to a limit you choose. Opening them again reads from local disk rather than the network — and the cache always leaves free space on your drive.

Streamed, never buffered

A large file moves through in pieces. Nothing loads a whole file into memory at either end, so a 5 GB video behaves the same as a 5 MB photo.

We build on proven infrastructure rather than inventing our own filesystem. The interesting engineering in Driive is the experience around it, not a homemade version of something that already works.

Security you can check

Claims are easy. These are the ones we are willing to be held to.

Isolation, enforced twice

Your account is confined to its own storage area by two independent systems. One failing is not enough to expose your files to anyone else.

Keys that stay on your device

Each computer generates its own key and keeps the private half in your operating system’s keychain. It is never uploaded, and removing a device revokes only that one.

We verify the server, not just you

The desktop app checks our gateway’s identity against a key built into the app. If anything else answers, it refuses to connect rather than asking you to decide.

Encrypted in transit and at rest

All transfers use TLS, and the storage provider encrypts what it holds. We are explicit below about what that does and does not mean.

What we do not claim

Driive is not end-to-end encrypted and is not zero-knowledge. Encryption at rest means the storage provider encrypts the disks it holds your files on. It is not the same as us being unable to read them, and we will not blur the two.

If that distinction matters for what you are storing, encrypt those files yourself before they reach any server — ours included.

The full model, including what we log and what we do not, is on the security page.

Why Driive

We are not the cheapest gigabytes you can buy. Here is what you get instead.

Your data stays in the EU

Files are stored in an EU-jurisdiction bucket. Not "usually", not "by default" — the storage location is fixed at creation and cannot be moved elsewhere.

Each account is walled off twice

Ownership is checked when a request arrives, and the storage gateway independently confines every account to its own area. Both would have to fail for one customer to reach another.

Your computer keeps its own key

Each device creates a key that never leaves it. We only ever receive the public half. Remove a device and only that device loses access.

No ecosystem to join

No account you also use for email, photos and your phone backup. No documents suite pushing itself into your files. A drive, and nothing else.

Honest about what ending looks like

Stop paying and your drive becomes read-only — you keep downloading and deleting during the retention window, with notices before anything is removed.

Fixed size, fixed price

No surprise overage bills, no metered egress. You buy a size, you keep that size, and uploads stop cleanly when it is full.

Where we are not the best choice

If you want the most storage for the least money, the large platforms will beat us. They run their own hardware at a scale we do not, and they subsidise storage to keep you in their ecosystem. That is a real advantage and we are not going to pretend it away.

If you want collaborative document editing, shared team drives or granular sharing links, Driive does not do those yet either. It does one thing: your files, as a drive, stored in Europe.
